Torqeedo Cruise Pod Wins DAME Award at METS

The Torqeedo Cruise FP (fixed pod) is the overall winner of the 2016 DAME Design Awards at METSTRADE, the annual marine equipment trade show held annually in Amsterdam. Bill Dixon, award jury chair, presented the prize to Christoph Ballin, Torqeedo co-founder and CEO.

The overall winner is recognized as an outstanding example of groundbreaking research and development. The jury praised the Torqeedo Cruise FP for "its beautiful engineering, close attention to design detail, integrated approach, compact dimensions and realistic market price. It creates exciting new opportunities for the interior of sailing yachts by removing the need for a traditional engine compartment."

This is Torqeedo's second overall DAME victory in four years. In 2012, it received the award for its Deep Blue 80 horsepower electric outboard motor, marking the German company's development of an industrially produced, high-powered electric propulsion system.

Torqeedo's Cruise FP is a real alternative to inboard diesels. The system provides minimal weight with maximum performance. The motor unit, proven in thousands of outboard motors, is just one of the components of the integrated propulsion system that offers superior performance and convenience. The system can be charged by shore or solar power, a generator or through hydro-generation while sailing.
