Hall of Fame Marina in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. is expanding with new, concrete floating docks. With the permitting phase complete, dock renovation with Bellingham Marine will commence this summer, with construction completed in fall, to accommodate Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) 2019. Perfect weather for Miami Yacht Show

While Wednesday was quite blustery and rainy, the Miami Yacht Show opened to clear skies on Valentine’s Day, for a gorgeous weekend of luxury boats and sun. In its new location, crowds seemed smaller, although lines for Uber frustrated some commuting by car from the Miami Boat Show on Virginia Key to the Miami Yacht Show’s two locations on Watson Island and One Herald Plaza. There was no wait for water taxis.Some prevailing themes stood out among the nearly 500 yachts in the brokerage show between the Venetian and Rickenbacker Causeways.

Team AkzoNobel Completes Volvo Ocean Race

Recently, team AkzoNobel completed its first Volvo Ocean Race, concluding the final leg in second place and finishing fourth overall. The team finished on the podium on six of the eleven legs.During the race, the team was supported by two Damen Workshop Containers. The two containers leapfrogged each other across the 11-legs and 83,000 km of the round-the-world race, ensuring that team AkzoNobel had onshore support every step of the way.The provision of workshop containers was a natural way for Damen to offer support to the team.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. is offering a special cruise aboard the 1920 buyboat Winnie Estelle to watch the 8th annual Elf Classic Yacht Race, taking place on the Miles River in St. Michaels, Md. on Saturday, September 29, 2018. The annual race is sponsored by the Classic Yacht Restoration Guild and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. The Elf Classic Yacht Race spectator cruise will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. so that passengers can view the beginning of the race. Participation is limited, with advanced registration needed.

MS EUROPA 2 Meets Breakdancing

Guests on board the luxury ship EUROPA 2 will to be enchanted by a unique performance that blends breakdancing and classical music. The internationally renowned “Flying Steps” dance group will make their EUROPA 2 debut in July, and will perform their dynamic “Flying Bach” show on a cruise that started yesterday in Monte Carlo, cruising the Mediterranean Sea to Palma de Mallorca. Under the artistic direction of Vartan Bassil, this breakdancing group from Berlin’s Kreuzberg district has become a network of over 30 world-class athletes who have danced their way to international success.

From June 18-21, the Newport Charter Yacht Show provided a four-day window of opportunity for brokers, managers and other industry professionals to acquaint themselves with 24 luxury yachts available for summer charter in the New England area. As well, it gave attendees a chance to network, share information and socialize on the docks and at seminars and special events, mixing business with a good amount of pleasure. “Everyone is ‘on’ and friendly here, like they’ve known you forever,” said Maggie Vale, a local broker with Churchill Yacht Partners who attended the show.

Closest-Ever Volvo Ocean Race Starts Final Leg

After nine months of gruelling competition, the Volvo Ocean Race boats have started the final leg of the closest-ever contest in the round-the-world event’s 45-year history. As the seven competing Volvo 65s passed the Inmarsat-branded start line in Gothenburg, Sweden today, three teams were in a virtual tie for the ultimate crown, with everything to be decided in the 700nm sprint to The Hague. Two teams – MAPFRE and Team Brunel – now sit tied at the top of the overall leaderboard on 65 points with Dongfeng Race Team currently just one point behind them on 64.

Ewing continues, “The X40L is many things: superyacht luxury tender, car carrier, utility vehicle, landing craft, dining tender, scuba platform, water disco, floating galley, and jet boat … and I probably have left something out. The design was in collaboration with a client with specific and clear requirements for this boat, and I don’t believe we would have developed a design such as this without the creative push from our client”.

Yacht Chefs Contest at the Yacht Club de Monaco

As part of its training center La Belle Classe Academy, dedicated to the yachting professionals, the Yacht Club de Monaco has partnered with the yacht brokerage company Bluewater to organize, on April 5, a culinary contest for yacht chefs. This 2018 edition saw 12 leaders of different nationalities compete. All 12 are superyachts chefs onboard vessels over 40 meters, from which 5 fly the Monaco Yacht Club's flag: Rola (47m), Black Legend (50m), Sokar (64m), Royal Romance (92 m) and the very emblematic Lady Moura (105 m).

Young Endeavour to join the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Fleet

STS Young Endeavour is joining a race on every sailor’s bucket list, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. While the 44 metre brigantine won’t be chasing line honours, she will play an important support role acting as the standby radio relay ship. Lieutenant Commander Mike Gough, Commanding Officer Young Endeavour said the southern ocean could throw up many perils, so the role of the Royal Australian Navy’s sail training ship was important. “The weather conditions on the southern ocean can be unpredictable and ships can get into trouble,” he said.

Aus Navy at Home on Water in Sailing Champs

Navy sailors asserted their dominance for the second year in a row, by again winning the Australian Defence Sailing Association’s inter-service championship held at Rushcutters Bay in Sydney. Each service crewed Elliott 7 yachts in the three-boats-a-side team racing event that culminated in duels between top Navy and Air Force skippers. Sailing Association president Wing Commander Sean Ahern put Navy win down to the skill of their best sailor, Sub Lieutenant Chris Eddes. “The other Navy boats don’t tend to do as well but they seem to come out on top because Chris is such a good sailor,” Wing Commander Ahern said.

Volvo Ocean Race Legends Gather

The Volvo Ocean Race will celebrate 45 years of history with a Legends Race on the final leg of the 2017-18 edition from Gothenburg to The Hague, says a press statement. Any yacht to have featured in the Whitbread Round the World Race or Volvo Ocean Race, dating back to 1973-74, will be welcome to join the 2018 Legends Race. The race will be run over the same course, and around the same time, as the closing leg of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18, which starts from Gothenburg on 21 June. Mercury Marine that it has entered in to an exclusive distribution agreement with Supratechnic Pte Ltd, one of the largest marine distributors in Asia, based out of Singapore. This partnership will allow Mercury to expand and build a regional distribution channel in Southeast Asia that will include all of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei. "This new relationship will allow Mercury to further penetrate the commercial market in Asia, giving us the opportunity to grow both in product range and territorial expansion," said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president.

Clipper Yacht Race Ends After 40,000 Miles

London welcomed home the 12-strong fleet of the biennial Clipper Round the World yacht race, Saturday, July 30, 2016. Twelve teams celebrated the completion of the 40,000-nautical-mile ocean race — the world's longest — by sailing up the River Thames and under London's iconic Tower Bridge. First over the Line - Shetland Race

Arriving at 4.11am this morning, Solo 2, skippered by Rune Aasberg, is now flying the Bergen Shetland Blue Ribbon today as the first to finish this year’s race across the North Sea from Norway. With good wind conditions, Solo 2 reached up to 16 knots on the crossing to finish the race in just over 19 hours. The race started close to Marsteinen Lighthouse in outer Korsfjorden south of Bergen, on Wednesday, June 22 at 10 a.m. local time. A total of 34 yachts in the race are closing in on Lerwick with a steady arrivals expected throughout the morning. The return race of 2016 will see yachts departing from Lerwick on Saturday, June 25, at 4 p.m.

Volvo Ocean Race Sails on Hong Kong's Horizon

The world’s premier round-the-world sailing event will visit Hong Kong for the first time after the Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) announced Wednesday the city has been chosen as a host port for the 2017-18 edition. This will be the first time that Hong Kong has been a stopover for the VOR, although race organisers have been looking at the city, with its spectacular harbour surrounded by skyscrapers, for quite a while. ‘Iconic’ is a much-overused word, but the thought of a fleet of VO65s racing in Victoria Harbour is nothing short of mouth-watering.

Race 9 of Clipper Yacht Race to be Held in Qingdao

Williams, GAC Pindar take the title at WMRT Fremantle

Fremantle – Six-time World Match Racing Tour champion Ian Williams and his GAC Pindar crew clinched victory in a hotly contested first race of this year’s season in Fremantle, Australia. The skipper beat Swede Hans Wallén and his Wallén Racing team 3-0 in the final, in convincing fashion. Williams dominated the event in a M32 high-speed catamaran, replacing the slower keelboats of previous years. Clipper Yacht Race: Making The Turn

Strong winds in the Da Nang New Discovery of Asia Race have led to some thrilling racing conditions for the Clipper Race fleet, with teams recording speeds of over 32 knots near the virtual mark at the most southern point of the course. The choppy sea state presents its own challenges for the crew but as the front runners begin their journey north, conditions are expected to ease slightly over the next couple of days as a high develops off the south of Japan. As Derry~Londonderry~Doire continues to lead the fleet, GREAT Britain and Garmin are in an ongoing battle for second place.

Scenic to Build World's First Discovery Yacht

Scenic has announced the launch of the world’s First Discovery Yacht, the Scenic Eclipse. The new ship will embark on its maiden voyage August 31, 2018, sailing from Istanbul to Venice, followed by discovery voyages to the Americas, Antarctica, Europe and the Mediterranean, and the Arctic and Norwegian Fjords. Scenic Eclipse will be a six-star all-inclusive mega yacht. The Scenic Eclipse will carry 228 guests in 114 all-veranda suites, ranging from the 344 square foot Verandah Suite to the 2,500 square foot, two-bedroom Owner’s Penthouse Suite. The Scenic Eclipse will have two helicopters for excursions as well as a seven-seat submarine.

Intellian to Debut New Satellite TV Antenna

The latest product to join Intellian’s i-Series antenna range, the i5P, will be unveiled at the METSTRADE exhibition November 17-19 in Amsterdam. Intellian, a producer of maritime satellite communication antenna technology, will display the newest addition to its TVRO portfolio during this year’s METSTRADE show. The all-new i5P creates a new size category of marine satellite TV systems. The system allows inland and coastal craft across Europe as well as vessels in the Mediterranean cruise sector to travel further and experience higher performance with a smaller antenna, according to the manufacturer.
