Opportunities In Euro Market Lure Aussie Boaties

Local boaties are turning to the European market for pre-owned multi-million dollar luxury vessels because of a shortfall in quality high-end stock in Australia, according to a leading marine broker. Ray White Marine CEO Rick Rodwell said Australia’s shortage of late model luxury motor yachts with low hours had come about because of the GFC. “People weren’t buying new boats during and post the GFC, so several years down the track we are feeling the effect of that protracted lull in sales,” he said.

Elandra Yachts Appoints American Representative

Elandra Yachts announced its official entry into the United States market with the appointment of an American representative to distribute its luxury motor yachts overseas. The appointment of Michael Usina as President of Elandra Yacht Sales in the Americas fast tracks the company’s international growth as Australia’s newest brand in high-end motor yachts. Elandra Yachts founder and Managing Director Luke Durman said the partnership was sealed after Usina came out for the Sydney International Boat Show this year and was “thoroughly impressed” by the quality and value of Elandra’s vessels.

New Qualifications for Commercial Yacht Crews

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) informs that four new certificates of competency for seafarers working on commercial motor yachts will be introduced in Australia from early 2016. After consultation between AMSA the commercial yachting Industry, Yachting Australia, the Australian Maritime College and the Transport Logistics Industry Skills Council, these new qualifications will see Australian motor yacht worker’s skills recognized with an official AMSA certificate of competency. Recently, the team at the island of Lord Howe, 600km off Port Macquarie NSW, sought to replace its swimming pontoon.
