Landing Craft Becomes Floating Repair Facility
Platinum Yacht Repair, the yacht repair and maintenance arm of Dubai's Drydocks World & Maritime World, say they have converted the landing craft Al Hail 1, belonging to Dubai-based M/S Royal Yachts from naval to civilan use as floating yacht repair and maintenance facility.
The 54-metre vessel arrived at the Platinum Yacht Repair facility at Dubai Maritime City in June 2013 to undergo the necessary extensive modification and refit.
“With the unprecedented development taking place in the region and in Dubai in particular, which is reinforced by its Expo 2020 win, more marinas are expected to be developed and hence more yachts will be available in the region. This calls for readily accessible and sophisticated repair and maintenance facilities. The Platinum Yacht Repair facility not only addresses this niche’ segment but also caters to small-to mid-size vessels that require refit and refurbishment,” said His Excellency, Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World.
Platinum inform that the work scope on Al Hail 1 included refurbishment on the exterior of the hull as well as interiors; hydro-blasing and painting; overhaul of equipment and valves; refurbishment of wheelhouse, toilets and vacuum systems; upgrade of generators and new synchronizing and A/C systems; fly bridge and canopy fabric fitting; and seating equipment. Sea trials have been successfully completed they add.
