Bolideck Future Teak on Deck for Luxury
Standards set by yacht owners for stylish decking that is also environmentally responsible are being matched in the yacht support vessel market. Dutch flooring and decking specialist Bolidt has secured a new contract to supply and install Bolideck Future Teak for the deck onboard a Fast Yacht Support Vessel under construction at Damen Shipyards Group company Amels, of Vlissingen.
The durable, lightweight synthetic decking system with the look and feel of real teak will be fitted on the Sea Axe 6711 Fast Yacht Support Vessel (FYSV), a 67m length vessel due delivery in early 2014.
The new vessel is able to accommodate 21 personnel comfortably, and has been designed for relief crews needed for superyacht operations. Offering ample space for water toys such as tenders, jet skis and sailing dinghies, the vessel also features a separate certified helipad with 5,000 kg take-off weight for commercial use.
“Bolideck Future Teak features regularly on the vessels Amels delivers,” says Jacco van Overbeek, Bolidt Director Maritime Division. “We also have a long track record in the luxury yacht market, where owners and designers are well known for exacting standards on materials quality and luxurious appearance. Now, Bolideck Future Teak is becoming the preferred option in the yacht support vessel market”.
“It has been selected for this application not only because it is aesthetically pleasing, but because it is durable, lightweight and highly cost effective.”
The contract follows a run of orders for Bolideck Future Teak onboard the comparable FYSVs Umbra, Oberon and Garcon. Garcon was recognised in the Distinction for Innovation category at the International Superyacht Society Awards Gala in Fort Lauderdale. The award recognised the vessel’s distinctive Sea Axe bow and hull form.
“These vessels are built to ‘yacht-quality’ standards, complementing the superyachts they support, but choosing Bolideck Future Teak is about more than looks,” says Mr van Overbeek.
“Qualities that are essential at sea, such as being weatherproof and maintenance-friendly, are integral. The system is ecologically responsible, reduces installation time and is extremely cost effective. Designers are also no longer limited by traditional planking designs, as the material can be installed in functional curved figures.”
