Salvors Send Crane Barge to Refloat Yacht that Grounded in Puerto Rico

Salvors are sending a crane barge to lift a yacht that ran aground on a coral reef just off Puerto Rico's Flamenco Beach.The 72-foot sailing catamaran Obsession was reportedly traveling with four people on board from Puerto Rico to the British Virgin Islands when it struck a reef during a stop in Culebra on July 21. No injuries were reported.To remove the vessel, salvage and marine services contractor Resolve Marine has deployed its 400-ton shear-leg barge. Yacht Sinks Near Puerto Rico

Four men forced to abandon their sinking motor yacht have been rescued approximately 25 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, the US. Coast Guard said.At 5:22 a.m. Sunday, watchstanders at Sector San Juan received a VHF radio Channel 16 distress call from the 80-foot yacht Clam Chowder, reporting the vessel’s stern was mostly under water. Despite having multiple pumps energized, the crew of four U.S. citizens from Boston and Florida, said to be the only people aboard at the time of the incident, could not keep up with the flooding.

BWA Yachting, a  provider of marine agency services to superyacht owners and their crews, has renewed its partnership with The International SeaKeepers Society. Two Rescued from Vessel Aground North of Cuba

Two American sailors whose vessel ran aground approximately 25 miles north of Gibara, Cuba, were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Friday. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 7th District command center were first notified of the emergency Friday morning when a distress signal from the vessel's Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) began transmitting. The signal was determined to be from the 39-foot sailing vessel Boxer. A Coast Guard MH-60 helicopter aircrew was immediately launched to the scene and discovered the sailboat was hard aground and had sustained significant damage.

USCG to Release Boating Safety App

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said it will release its first boating safety App Saturday as the kickoff to this year's National Safe Boating Week. The Boating Safety Mobile app was not designed to replace a boater's marine VHF radio, which the USCG strongly recommends all boaters have aboard their vessels. The app was mainly designed to provide additional boating safety resources for mobile device users. Features of the app include state boating information; a safety equipment checklist; free boating safety check requests; navigation rules; float plans; and calling features to report pollution or suspicious activity.
