Standard Horizon Upgrades Navigation System
Standard Horizon released a free software upgrade for its CPN Series touch-screen multimedia navigation systems, the 10.1-inch CPN 1010i and seven-inch CPN700i. The update is available through Standard Horizon’s website at standardhorizon.com.
By taking advantage of Standard Horizon’s v2.2.2.210 software, users of these advanced C-MAP 4D based chartplotters will unlock enhanced navigation performance, exclusive pairing with Jeppesen’s Plan2Nav mobile app and an improved online and entertainment experience anytime a WiFi hotspot is near. Standard Horizon is also offering a limited-time mail-in rebate to help introduce new boaters to the CPN Series experience. Boaters who purchase a new CPN Series navigation system between now and December 31st will receive cash back in the mail — $150 on the CPN700i and $200 on the CPN1010i.
This latest software provides boaters with enhanced chart redraw and panning speeds when navigating with Jeppesen’s rich C-MAP 4D chart detail. Another key advantage of this new CPN Series software is the ability to pair these chartplotters with iPhone and iPad devices running Jeppesen’s free Plan2Nav mobile app (requires free upgrade to latest version of Plan2Nav). This allows a boater’s iOS mobile device to operate as a wireless remote navigation display for the onboard CPN Series system. Whether up on the flybridge, down in the salon or up on the bow tending the anchor, Plan2Nav users can now view all charting information displayed on the CPN Series system — C-MAP 4D chart detail (without the need to purchase detailed charts for Plan2Nav), all navigation data, AIS targets, weather data and more. “Navigation and chart data on the CPN display will be wirelessly linked to an iOS mobile device and available for viewing anywhere on the boat,” said Jeppesen Business Development Manager Ken Cirillo. “This expands the usefulness of Plan2Nav beyond at-home voyage planning, and is a great way to make important information available anywhere onboard,” he added.
This new Standard Horizon software positively impacts every aspect of CPN Series operation and enjoyment. “We developed this upgraded software to provide users of our CPN Series with an enhanced experience across the board,” said Standard Horizon Executive Vice President Jason Kennedy. “This free upgrade optimizes all of the unique navigation and entertainment capabilities that have set the CPN Series apart since its introduction,” Kennedy added.
The CPN Series lets boaters enjoy all their favorite online activities at the dock, in the marina, or anywhere Wi-Fi service is available, including surfing the web, checking email through Yahoo and Google, watching online videos and streaming online entertainment. The CPN Series also lets boaters enjoy entertainment and music using an SD card or portable memory drive, with rich sound provided through the unit’s front-mounted speakers. New NMEA2000 connectivity has also been added for improved system integration with other onboard electronics.
The CPN700i and CPN1010i feature a 50-channel WAAS GPS receiver and bonded sunlight viewable displays for superior clarity in real-world boating conditions. The Zoom and Swipe capabilities of Standard Horizon’s unique touch screen make it easy and intuitive to perform functions such as zooming, rotating and tilting of the charts and scrolling between various navigation pages. Standard Horizon’s Dual Chart Window feature offers split-screen operation with independent zoom levels.
The CPN Series offers unparalleled flexibility for electronic charting. Each unit comes pre-loaded with C-MAP by Jeppesen coastal navigation charts for the entire North American continent including Alaska, Hawaii, the Great Lakes and Canada. These included charts also cover important cruising regions like the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Central America, along with C-MAP by Jeppesen base maps for the world.
Boaters who want the full charting experience can purchase C-MAP 4D chart coverage with either MAX or Full 4D content. If boaters begin with MAX features and later wish to upgrade to the Full 4D feature set, they can easily purchase and unlock the additional features using the same cartridge. C-MAP 4D with Full 4D content provides navigators with a range of advanced features, including 3D charting, satellite images with 2D and 3D overlay, digital raster charts with 2D and 3D overlay, Guardian Alarm anti-grounding technology and Easy Routing for safer, more efficient navigation. Jeppesen’s free worldwide C-Weather forecasting service lets boaters download important weather data onto their CPN Series systems, including wind speed/direction, wave height and weather type projections. In addition, through December 31st, 2013, C-MAP’s new High Resolution Bathymetric (HRB) charts are available as a FREE unlock with the purchase of a CPN 700i or CPN 1010i & C-MAP 4D card.
The CPN Series is compatible with AIS, DSC VHF radios (displaying DSC distress and position report calls) and Standard Horizon’s FF525 black box fishfinder. Video inputs are provided for interfacing with a video camera and/or DVD player, while the CPN1010i also provides a VGA video output to display the plotter’s image on a separate monitor.
