British Security Initiative Targets Marine Theft

The British Marine Federation has partnered with security experts Datatag to help owners avoid theft of marine outboards. International Sailing Summit Goes Live

The International Sailing Summit (ISS), taking place on 17 November, will be streamed live online for the first time in the event’s history. This worldwide industry forum has never before been as accessible to a truly global audience, with content available at the time and as a resource after the event. The Summit theme ‘Waking up the sailing industry – how sailing needs to modernize, diversify and develop to attract and retain participants’ stresses the importance of modernization and innovation.

Learning Lessons from British Cycling at ISS

Next month, Terry Greenwood of British Cycling will be speaking at the 13th International Sailing Summit (ISS). He will reveal the concept behind the triumphant revival of British Cycling as inspiration of an ambitious future for the sailing industry. Taking place on 17 November 2014 the Summit will address a global marine audience with innovative ways to engage an all-inclusive audience and generate business success. Terry Greenwood will identify lessons from the cycling industry as his contribution to the theme ‘Waking up the sailing industry – how sailing needs to modernise, diversify and develop to attract and retain participants’.

Sir Ben Ainslie Praises British Superyacht Apprentices

Gold medal winning Olympian, Sir Ben Ainslie, celebrated the achievements of 49 apprentices from the superyacht sector at the recent British Marine Federation’s (BMF) Apprenticeship Graduation (Tuesday 16 September). Those graduating have all successfully finished their apprenticeships with members of Superyacht UK, a group association of the BMF. Taking place at the PSP Southampton Boat Show, 55 graduating apprentices in total from all areas of the marine industry were presented with their awards by the America’s Cup sailor.

Report: UK Marine Industry has £6.2b Impact

The full economic impact of the U.K. marine industry and spend associated with boating participation was estimated to total £6.2 billion in 2012/13, according to a new report released by the British Marine Federation (BMF). Latest industry trends results also announced by the BMF show encouraging signs of an upward trend for this key contributor to the U.K. economy. The two reports are announced in a week when the U.K. leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry came together at the BMF’s annual conference in Liverpool. In addition to highlighting the impressive £6.2 billion contribution, the BMF’s Economic Benefits of the U.K.

Endeavour Quay Offer Office, Storage and Workshop Space

Endeavour Quay, the boatyard located on Gosport waterfront overlooking Portsmouth Harbor, is offering marine businesses the opportunity to operate on the site. From this month, the boatyard has additional office, storage and workshop space available for marine businesses to occupy. Formerly the Camper and Nicholsons boatbuilding facility, this yard still regularly plays host to big names in the world of yacht racing including Alex Thomson and Mike Golding, as well as the Clipper fleet and yachts such as the classic J class.
