US classic yacht designers Stephens Waring Yacht Design say that the recent globally recognised 2014 International Yacht & Aviation Awards gave the Maine design house  an opportunity to push the envelope in terms of creativity and strengthen their reputation as a world leader of 'Spirit of Tradition' yacht design.

Two of the company’s designs – Citronella – a 44ft elegant, easy to handle, fuel-efficient, classic-looking powerboat designed for cruising and comfortable entertaining, and Rapture – a striking, 37ft modern classic day sailing boat – made it to the short listing stage in the Yacht Concept up to 30 metres category. Although they missed out on the top prize, their exposure was well received globally.

Bob Stephens, SWYD Principal, who has been at the forefront of developing the Spirit of Tradition concept of yachts since its inception in the early 1990s said participation is not just about winning but it is also about having the opportunity to be able to present ideas. “It was a privilege to be invited to submit two concepts; Design et al provides a prestigious showcase for stretching the boundaries of our creativity and displaying some of our more unusual ideas. To be in such company of luminaries of the yacht and aviation design world cannot help but be inspiring.”

Paul Waring, SWYD Principal, added: "It is rewarding to share our work and be recognised amongst such talent on the international stage. We will continue to aim for the highest standard – to keep our work inspired by forward looking, sensible design that is grounded in reality."

Meanwhile, back at base in the design office, the Stephens Waring Yacht Design team says that it continues to produce a continuous flow of unique, stunning, and practical bespoke designs.
