Severn Trent De Nora Secures New Order for its Mariner Omnipure
Electrolytic disinfection technology to be used on luxury yacht.
Severn Trent De Nora has announced that the Mariner Omnipure marine sewage treatment system M5508 model will be used on the FY17, a new luxury superyacht to be constructed by Fitzroy Yachts of New Zealand for delivery in 2014. The FY17 is a fast cruising sloop that measures 37.5m in overall length. The order was secured through HMA-POGC of Australia, a supplier of industrial equipment to the water and waste, oil, gas and other industries.
The Mariner Omnipure system uses Severn Trent De Nora’s proprietary electrolytic disinfection technology in a compact, lightweight unit. The system features a bulkhead-mounted arrangement – a first of its kind – that provides safe and effective treatment of black and gray water. The resulting wastewater effluent quality is well within the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) MEPC.159(55) requirements. The Mariner Omnipure system has received both Bureau Veritas (BV) Certification and the certificate of approval from the United States Coast Guard in accordance with MEPC.159(55) effluent standards.
According to Dana Casbeer, marine and offshore product line manager for Severn Trent De Nora, “The Mariner Omnipure system is designed especially for vessels with tight installation spaces such as the FY17. The MARINER’s aesthetically pleasing design will blend seamlessly with this luxury yacht’s interior as well as complement her first class, fast sloop design due to the unit’s light weight and minimal maintenance requirements. The M5508 model selected for this application will accommodate treatment capacities up to 25 persons for black and gray water.”
As with any live-aboard application, sewerage systems aboard yachts generate wastes which can contain contaminants that have a detrimental effect on water quality and the overall marine environment. The Mariner Omnipure system effectively treats sewage in such applications using the electrolytic process – generating a powerful oxidant from seawater to disinfect the biological wastes, reducing their environmental impact. This eliminates the need to purchase, store and handle hazardous chemicals required with other treatment technologies.
Severn Trent De Nora will be presenting the capabilities of the Mariner Omnipure system at two tradeshows over the next few months: Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in Florida, United States, 25-29 October (stand 3023); and The International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, 5-7 December (stand 2036).
