A U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) boarding team from Station Kings Point, N.Y., terminated the unsafe voyage of a recreational vessel, Thursday, after conducted a routine recreational boating safety check aboard the 24-foot vessel operating in the vicinity of Mamaroneck Harbor, N.Y.

As a result of the boarding, the crew's voyage was terminated due to insufficient life jackets and visual distress signaling devices and the vessel was not equipped with the required throwable floatation device.

Station Kings Point boatcrew escorted the terminated vessel back to the nearest safe haven.

"Safety on the water is the priority for all vessels," said Petty Officer First Class Holly Campbell, executive petty officer of Coast Guard Station Kings Point.  "Having your safety equipment on board and having a solid knowledge of your safety equipment type, location and condition is essential for you and your passengers to remain safe and get home alive after an outing on your vessel. Quick action during an emergency such as putting on a life jacket could be the determining factor in an unannounced emergency on the water. We routinely educate the public during these up and coming seasonal months when boat enthusiasts enjoy recreational boating and maintain that posture throughout the year."
