NavPlay, manufacturer of iPad apps for boaters, announced today the latest set of feature driven environments for its NavPlay navigation app, Navigation and Navigation Bridge. Designed to provide an activity-specific control screen, these two new environments, along with the app’s Charting Table and Alarm Manager environments, work hand in hand to seamlessly allow boaters to navigate using an iPad from anywhere on board their vessel.

The NavPlay Navigation Bridge environment provides users access to a full suite of instruments linked directly to their iPad. Using WiFi, the Navigation Bridge can display NMEA 0813 data such as current location in latitude and longitude, wind speed and direction, depth, speed through water, speed over ground and heading. NavPlay can be used in portrait or landscape orientations and data can be displayed in either large, easy-to-read digital numbers or a graphical representation of analog dials. For optimal visibility in all lighting conditions, the instruments can be set to either daylight or nighttime modes with contrasting backgrounds.

The NavPlay Navigation environment enables users to select routes to follow that have been created in the Charting Table environment. Once selected, boaters can directly engage their Autopilot. This allows fingertip control and the freedom to change heading from anywhere on a boat. The autopilot screen can be customized with graphical images of motorboat or sailboat steering wheels. In addition, NavPlay’s Navigation environment displays AIS targets with detailed information, delivering greater situational awareness for collision avoidance.

“We are very excited about the navigation capabilities and functionality NavPlay brings to boaters,” said Andrea Buralli, sales and marketing manager, NavPlay. “NavPlay Navigation is so simple to use and allows individuals to control the direction of their boats anywhere using their iPad in our dedicated environments. The ability to customize the Navigation Bridge is unlimited. Boaters not only have the freedom to access all of the information they need, but view it according to their exact preferences.”

The NavPlay app is available for download from the Apple App Store in English, Italian, French and German, and is compatible with Apple iPad2, iPad3, iPad4, iPad mini and iPad Air models running iOS 6.0 or greater. C-Map by Jeppesen charts are not included, but can be easily purchased from NavPlay using the Jeppesen Marine tool located in the ‘Service’ section of the NavPlay app. NavPlay includes a worldwide vector background map to ensure usability when boaters do not have add-on mapping. Satellite images are only available while connected to the Internet.

The introductory version of NavPlay is priced at $4.99 and includes Charting Table, LogBook, Instruments Diagnostics and Experience Maker features; unlimited access to NavigationBook.com; a cloud-based backup option; as well as 15-days of free access to all navigation features. After the initial 15-days, users can purchase an additional 15-day subscription for $14.99 or purchase a 1-year subscription for $49.99. A free 90-day subscription is available to new Vesper Marine customers; details are available at vespermarine.com.
