FUCHS Provides Surface Technology In-house
Blasting, painting and drying - FUCHS Fördertechnik AG, member of the DEUTSCHE YACHTEN, Superyachts Germany working group, can now perform all of these operations in-house. Moreover, since the founding of its subsidiary, FUCHS Oberflächentechnik GmbH, it can also offer its complete range of services to external customers. In order to do this, the company, which manufactures cranes for the ship, large yacht, offshore and industry sectors, has expanded its site in Oststeinbek near Hamburg.
The new hall has been equipped to meet the demands of the latest surface technologies. This includes a blasting booth as well as a paint and drying booth. Two overhead cranes each have load capacities of 2 x 8 t. These, together with a freely manoeuvrable platform truck, ensure that components measuring up to 14 m x 5 m x 4 m and weighing up to 20 tons can be safely transported, blasted and coated.
The unit is operated by experienced FUCHS staff members, and, according to the company, it meets the highest quality standards depending on the surface finish, application and sector. Not least of these is the mega-yacht standard at the highest level. For this, the subsidiary has especially implemented a DIN EN ISO 9001 quality management system, certified by DNV GL.
The range of services now offered include pretreatments (cleaning, blasting, priming, filling, sanding) as well as functional or decorative surface coating using a variety of materials. The main focus lies on steel/metal products for the ship building sector, including, of course, its own crane systems, and for industry. However, it also offers a painting service for boats and other products.
With FUCHS Oberflächentechnik, the company is able to strengthen its maxim “everything under one roof”. Even with customised crane systems such as jib cranes for life rafts, gantry cranes, deck cranes and telescopic cranes for tenders, the design, production, quality control and approval all come from a single source.
