Canadian Electric Boat Company and Torqeedo has announced that Canada’s electric boat rental fleet will expand by 27 vessels to serve the new Route de Champlain. Canadian Electric Boat Company (CEBC) will build the vessels powered by emission-free Torqeedo motors.

The Route de Champlain is a designated tourist route which allows visitors a new way to discover the beauty of Canada’s waterways. Starting in 2018, visitors will navigate a path closely aligned to renowned explorer Samuel de Champlain’s historic journey via kayak, canoe or electric boat. The Blue Route will expand surrounding municipalities’ access to bicycle and pedestrian paths by ferrying passengers between them via electric boat.

The new fleet will feature Torqeedo’s Cruise 4.0 electric motors and shore power charging. Some vessels will have a solar-paneled roof to help keep batteries charged. The boats will be based in Laval, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.

“In addition to the Route de Champlain project, we are experiencing rapid growth both inside Canada and around the world. In the US, dealerships in coastal areas of California and Florida are reporting increased interest in electric boating since the recent debut of the Volt 180 at the Miami International Boat Show.” said Claude Beaulac, CEBC’s vice president of sales and marketing. France and the UK are leading CEBC’s European market growth.

Potential owners can visit a dealer or order directly from the factory. Canadian Electric Boat Company’s online ordering process and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities enable the company to produce a boat to client specifications in as little as 7 weeks. A proprietary infusion hull technique assures sound structural integrity and full control of the composite materials layout.

CEBC recently moved most of its production to a new, larger plant in Boisbriand. Earlier this year, the company won the Future of the Industry Award from AMQ.
