Indonesia: Superyacht Sinking Sparks Global Search

HM Coastguard in the UK was among the agencies joining an international search operation last night (Friday 22 November) after a superyacht sank off Indonesia.At 9.08pm Friday 22nd November, HM Coastguard in the UK received a call from the Australian maritime authority, (JRCC Australia), who had in turn received a HF DSC Distress from what initially appeared to be a UK registered vessel named Asia. Investigations started by searching all relevant databases for contact details for the vessel but the vessel was not found to be on the UK Register.

Hong Kong Yachting Festival in the Works

The Hong Kong Cruise and Yacht Industry Association (HKCYIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Verventia Pte Ltd to help develop, organize and operate an annual Yachting Festival in Hong Kong under the auspices of the International Cruise & Yachting Festival – International Cruise & Yachting Festival (Hong Kong) (ICYFHK).The MOU was signed between Ms Kara Yeung, Executive Director, HKCYIA, and Mr Andy Treadwell CEO, Verventia, at the Asia Pacific Superyacht Conference (APSC) in Singapore on April 11, 2019.

Bering 65 Serge's Record Non-Refueling Cruise

Bering 65 Serge launched in 2015, this year made a record non-refueling crossing of 4,200 nautical miles from Thailand to Vladivostok in 27 days.All the way the vessel towed a 9 meter Hysucat sea boat with a displacement of 3,500 liters including a fuel reserve. The total fuel consumption was 12 300 liters burning 2.9 liters per mile and passing 155 miles per day at a speed of 6.5 knots.The Bering 65 is a rugged and classical looking steel yacht capable of any ocean crossing. She is quite, strong and leaves a graceful wake underway.

Transparency Market Research (TMR) forecasts the global market for yacht charter to register a 7.2% CAGR during the period between 2017 and 2025 to attain a value of $14.987 bn by 2025 from $8.123 bn in 2016. Volume-wise, it predicts the market to grow to 7,684 units from 6,054 units in 2016 by clocking a healthy 7.2% CAGR. Independent engine manufacturer DEUTZ announced it has acquired Torqeedo, provider of electric drive systems for watercraft. As an independent subsidiary of DEUTZ AG, Torqeedo will continue product development under its established Torqeedo brand and with its current leadership. China Launches First Maritime Silk Road Cruise Liner

China has launched its first cruise liner to sail via its ambitious transcontinental initiative Maritime Silk Road (MSR) on its maiden voyage during which it will visit three South-East Asian nations. The liner has scheduled stops in Vietnam, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia before eventually reaches Kuantan Port in Malaysia. The cruise liner set off from the Beihai port in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The 135-m-long 20-m-wide modern cruise ship can accommodate about 400 people and is equipped with wireless Internet access.
