iKommunicate Brings the 'Internet of Things' to Boats
iKommunicate from Digital Yacht is a radical new gateway designed to get traditional marine electronics connected to the next generation of interfacing and the internet of things. It was developed via a successful Kickstarter crowd funded project back in early 2016 and is now available as a consumer product. NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 interfacing have been utilised for many years and are now the defacto interconnect standard for all major brands of electronics. They are super reliable but relatively old fashioned in that they are slow and also complex for application developers to work with - like a dial up modem in a broadband age.
KVH Upgrades IP-MobileCast Service
KVH Industries has updated its unique IP-MobileCastTM content delivery service for additional viewing flexibility and expanded content offerings. The new features are being rolled out in stages, with the first round of upgrades automatically delivered via over-the-air software updates for current subscribers. IP-MobileCast was developed by KVH and launched in 2014 as the first and only service to multicast movies, TV shows, daily news and sports, as well as operational data via satellite to vessels at sea.
ARC Fleet Improves Communication Facilities

New Zealand audio equipment manufacturer FUSION has released of a variety of new marine entertainment and speaker products. These include the 650 and 750 True-Marine™ series entertainment systems and the Signature Series speakers and subwoofers. The company's flagship 750 series entertainment system is available in two configurations, the MS-UD750 with internal UNI-Dock, and the MS-AV750 marine DVD/CD player. The MS-AV750 offers HDMI video connection support, an industry first, allowing boaters to enjoy audio from any supported ARC television.
New STS900 Chiller Delivered to Trinity Yachts
Dometic Marine, a division of Dometic Group, has signed an agreement with Trinity Yachts, LLC to provide the high-capacity Dometic STS900 chiller for Trinity’s TO62 vessel, a 194-foot superyacht. The new STS900 is a chiller for yachts up to 200 feet, providing 75 tons of cooling capacity and 75 kilowatts of heat. It offers advanced features to adjust to extreme seawater temperatures, regulate water flow through the system, reduce stress on the boat generator, simplify maintenance and ensure optimal operation.
Finning to Showcase New Diesel Engines
Finning Marine is showcasing the new Cat C8.7 and C12.9 diesel engines, along with the Tier III Cat C32 ACERT propulsion engine and remote monitoring tool at the Southampton Boat Show 2014. With a displacement of 8.7 and 12.9 litres respectively, the Cat C8.7 and C12.9 offer yacht manufacturers a broad array of horsepower ratings ranging from 650 to 1,000 mhp, with the latter making the C12.9 an industry leader in power density. In order to meet customers’ requirements, each engine will be offered in several different configurations; all will conform to Tier 3 emissions regulations.
