iSea: MAN Debuts New Electric Controls, Displays, for Workboats and Yachts

A new electrics case for yachts and work boats featuring a central electronics unit, bridge displays and a throttle lever is now available from MAN Engines under the iSea name, with all components designed  to simplify processes and operating procedures.An open system, they also provide a high degree of connectivity with other components that are commonly available on the market.The new electrics case records all of the engine data and compares it with pre-determined target values.

Finning to Showcase New Diesel Engines

Finning Marine is showcasing the new Cat C8.7 and C12.9 diesel engines, along with the Tier III Cat C32 ACERT propulsion engine and remote monitoring tool at the Southampton Boat Show 2014. With a displacement of 8.7 and 12.9 litres respectively, the Cat C8.7 and C12.9 offer yacht manufacturers a broad array of horsepower ratings ranging from 650 to 1,000 mhp, with the latter making the C12.9 an industry leader in power density. In order to meet customers’ requirements, each engine will be offered in several different configurations; all will conform to Tier 3 emissions regulations.

Cobham in Volvo Ocean Race Satcom Partnership

Cobham has strengthened its commitment to the Volvo Ocean Race after signing up to become the Satellite & Radio Communications Equipment Partner and the Broadcast Equipment Partner for Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15, which starts in Alicante in October 2014. As part of the new deal, Cobham SATCOM will supply the satellite communications hardware for the new one-design Volvo Ocean 65s, including new generation SAILOR 500 and 250 FleetBroadband systems, as well as a large selection of radio and safety systems for use by the teams and race organisers, including new SAILOR AIS and Navtex solutions.

NISI Xpresso Yacht Exceeds Performance, Styling Expectations

NISI Yachts launched its 1700 Xpresso yacht (17m/58’) for her new owners in New Hampshire this week. The 1700 is the first model to be released in NISI’s Xpresso series. Recent sea-trials yielded 41-knot top and 33-knot cruise speeds. She is driven by twin UltraJets, mated to 1,150hp CAT C-18 engines. The builder reports Cummins Zeus and Volvo IPS pod propulsion systems are available.
