Volvo Penta Grooms Future of Technical Talent

When Aleric Sanders returns to Old Dominion University this month, the rising senior will know a thing or two about customer service, skill development and how to install a marine engine, thanks to his summer internship at Volvo Penta of the Americas. Sanders is one of 14 students who reported to the company’s Chesapeake, Va., headquarters in May to gain hands-on experience working for a global business that designs, builds and sells engines for leisure boats, commercial vessels and industrial applications.

Volvo Penta Buys Majority Stake in Seven Marine

Volvo Penta informs it has signed an agreement to become the major owner of U.S. based outboard motor manufacturer, Seven Marine, enabling the Swedish company to extend its scope of integrated propulsion systems. “With this acquisition, Volvo Penta is entering the outboard motor segment,” said Volvo Penta president, Björn Ingemanson. Volvo Penta said the deal will broaden its technology platform, while Seven Marine will be able to further develop its existing outboard technology to satisfy a wider range of needs for its customer base.

Volvo Penta Launches Innovative Drain System for Boaters

Volvo Penta today announced the launch of the patent-pending Volvo Penta Easy Drain, the first gasoline sterndrive raw water engine-draining system that can be activated with a single knob, whether the boat is in or out of the water. Volvo Penta to Power Volvo Ocean Race

Volvo Penta is the official engine supplier for the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race, which is having its North American stopover in Newport, R.I., this week. “The Volvo Ocean Race serves as a crucible for developing and testing new technologies that will benefit the entire marine industry,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas. Each of the One-Design Volvo Open 65 sailboats is equipped with a single Volvo Penta D2-75 four-cylinder diesel engine with S-drive. The engines are primarily used to produce electricity for the freshwater maker, lights, heating and electronic navigation and communication systems.

Volvo Penta Wins NMMA Innovation Award

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) presented an Innovation Award to Volvo Penta for its new Forward Drive (FWD) propulsion system in the Alternate Drive Technology category at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show today. The winners were selected by an independent panel of boating journalists, and the awards were presented at this morning’s Industry Breakfast at the Miami Beach Convention Center. “Winning this prestigious NMMA Innovation Award is a great testimony to the passion for innovation that drives our Volvo Penta team,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas.
