Reliant Yachts Unveils Unique New Build

Reliant Yachts of Newport, R.I. has announced a new build under contract for a 40’ tender utilizing the X series platform. Ewing continues, “The X40L is many things: superyacht luxury tender, car carrier, utility vehicle, landing craft, dining tender, scuba platform, water disco, floating galley, and jet boat … and I probably have left something out. The design was in collaboration with a client with specific and clear requirements for this boat, and I don’t believe we would have developed a design such as this without the creative push from our client”.

With 80 Years Around the World

Never before has someone at the impressive age of 80 sailed around the world non-stop. New Zealand-born Dr Stanley Paris wants to be the first. What's more, the American now residing in St. Augustine, Florida is planning on breaking the course record from Bermuda to Bermuda. The extreme sportsman had an offshore yacht ideally suited to the task built at the Kiel-based Knierim shipyard in Germany, a member of the DEUTSCHE YACHTEN – Superyachts Germany working group. The Finot-Conq FC3 53 is 17.33 metres long, 5.26 metres wide and is very racy.

Yacht Sinks after Crash with a Lobster Boat

A yacht and a commercial fishing vessel collided Tuesday about 10 miles east of Block Island, Rhode Island. No injuries have been reported. The 40-foot lobster boat, Squeeze Play, manned by a two-man crew, was struck by the yacht Lucia, which had four people aboard. The yacht was reported to be sinking after suffering a hole in its bow. Squeeze Play’s crew then helped the four people transfer from Lucia to their lobster boat. The U.S. Coast Guard launched a 45-foot response boat crew as well as a MH-60 Jayhawk air crew to assist on scene.

Newport Boat Show on September 17th

Newport Exhibition Group announced today that its 45th Newport International Boat Show will take place September 17th on the Newport waterfront along America’s Cup Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. Kiwi Joins Volvo Ocean Race Crew

Kiwi Volvo Ocean Race veteran Stu Bannatyne has joined Team Alvimedica for leg five of the race from Auckland to Brazil, says a statement from the Team. Bannatyne has done the Volvo Ocean Race six times, winning three of them. The New Zealander will start preparing with the crew tomorrow ahead of the leg start from Auckland on March 15. More Coverage Expected from New Federal Regs

Legislation passed on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 by the U.S. House of Representatives will bring a benefit to improve insurance coverage at lower cost to companies and their workers in the recreational boating industry, said the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF), a trade organization dedicated to promoting, protecting and growing marine business jobs. H.R. 3896 achieved this by amending the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act to provide a simplified definition of recreational vessels for purposes of the Act. The legislation was spearheaded and introduced last January by U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz of Florida.

Sailboat Atlantic Record Contender Waits in Newport

Following an 8-day trial voyage from La Trinité-sur-Mer (France), during which substantial information was obtained, Spindrift 2, the maxi-trimaran, has arrived at Rhode Island harbour, and waits for favorable weather before attacking the North Atlantic sailboat record. Co-skippers Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard and their crew now enter the critical phase of meticulously monitoring the weather. They must wait for the best window to launch their attempt to break the crewed North Atlantic record between New York and Lizard Point (England).

American Boating Congress Draws 36 Co-hosts
