NMEA Offers Online Marine Electronics Training Course

The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) has introduced a new marine electronics course designed for the boating public. It is intended for technically oriented boaters and end users who would like to apply the NMEA 0400 guidelines to installations that they perform on their own vessels, said Mark Reedenauer, NMEA's President and Executive Director. Called the NMEA 0400 General Overview, the new course provides highlights of NMEA's acclaimed 0400 Installation Standard. This course provides general knowledge and understanding of common marine electronics installation and operational procedures, regardless of equipment manufacturer.

NMMA Estimates 2013 Powerboat Sales Up 5%

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) expects that as 2013 comes to a close, the U.S. recreational boating industry will continue its post-recession climb with an estimated 5 percent increase in new powerboat retail sales. The increase comes on the heels of the industry’s 2012 rebound when new powerboat retail sales increased 10 percent—the industry’s first sign of recovery. In 2014, NMMA expects the recreational power boat sales will continue to grow another 5-7 percent.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) reports that the industry’s rising tide supports 964,000 American jobs and 34,833 businesses, generates $40 billion in annual labor income and drives $83 billion in annual spending. The NMMA, released these findings as part of its annual U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract, a collection of data and analysis on the state of the U.S. recreational boating industry. Retail sales of new power and sailboats increased 10.7 percent in 2012 to 163,245, demonstrating a post recession recovery for the industry. •    New powerboat sales increased 10 percent to 157,300 in 2012.
