Dometic Debuts Engineering Team for Ship-wide Ventilation

Dometic Marine, a division of Dometic Group, a global provider of leisure products for the marine, truck, caravan, motor home and automotive markets, has unveiled its new, dedicated team of ship-wide ventilation experts, who specialize in providing customized design, engineering support and consultation services to the global marine industry. Led by Dometic application engineers Neil Norton and Nelson Frolund, the Dometic Marine ship-wide ventilation team will focus exclusively on designing and implementing installation of smoke and fire dampers, axial fans and blowers, mist eliminators and accessories for boat builders, integrators and owners.

Senior Appointment at Marina Projects

Marina Projects Ltd, international marina consultancy based in Gosport, U.K., has appointed Sue Macpherson as a Senior Associate and Company Secretary. Macpherson is a Solicitor by profession and has held senior appointments both in private practise and as an In-House Solicitor in a large Marina business. Macpherson brings 30 years of legal, strategic and business management skills, 25 of those acting for Ports Authorities and owners or marina portfolios. Her work in the marine sector has included successfully managing objections at major Public Inquiries and advice in Arbitrations.

Eastern's Columbia on Display in Fort Lauderdale

Eastern Shipbuilding Group’s reengineered Columbia, built from the original design plans of the classic 1923 Essex-built schooner, will be on display at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 30-November 3, 2014. The original Columbia, a 141’ classic Gloucester Fishing Schooner designed by William Starling Burgess, built at the historic A.D. Story shipyard of Essex, Massachusetts and launched April 17, 1923, was bred for speed, challenging – and nearly defeating – Canada’s legendary Bluenose schooner in the International Fishermen’s Cup Races in Halifax.

Piracy Offshore Africa: Securing a Continent

The late Nelson Mandela once said: “I dream of an Africa which is in peace with itself.” At the EU-Africa summit in Brussels last month, European leaders urged their African counterparts to facilitate that dream by shouldering more of the security burden in their countries, both onshore and offshore. The summit coincided with reports of renewed piracy activity in the Gulf of Aden; ongoing attacks on shipping in the Gulf of Guinea, and explosions and mass arrests in Kenya, all serving to underline the scale of that challenge.

Nils brings over 25 years of domestic and international marine experience, including marine electronics sales and distribution, wholesale and retail marine product development, application engineering and project management. A third-generation maritime professional and licensed captain, Nils has extensive knowledge of marine systems for vessels ranging from sportfishermen to megayachts to commercial vessels.

The U.S. Superyacht Association (USSA) announced the 2013-2014 Board of Directors elected in October 2013. John J. Mann, III (Bluewater Books and Charts) will continue his role as Chairman. ABB Power ETNZ Yacht Base in San Francisco America's Cup

Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ), twice winner of the America’s Cup, is taking on the grueling challenge once again at the Regatta this year in San Francisco. ABB, official supplier to the Emirates Team New Zealand, has supplied a PCS100 SFC (Static Frequency Converter) to power their base in San Francisco during the event. During a summer of racing from July 4th to September 21st, including the Louis Vuitton Cup, the Emirates Team New Zealand, headed by managing director Grant Dalton and skipper Dean Barker, will be based in San Francisco.

LOC Sponsor Disabled Crew for Lord Nelson Tallship Voyage

British High Commissioner to Singapore, Antony Phillipson presented awards to Ong Shi Yi, who is deaf, and Jim Bek, who is blind, both of whom were sponsored by London Offshore Consultants (LOC) to take part in a special six-day voyage out of Singapore, part of Lord Nelson’s Norton Rose Fulbright Sail the World Challenge – which sees the ship embarked on a 50,000-mile circumnavigation. The British High Commissioner later climbed one of Lord Nelson's 33.7-meter masts, accompanied by Singaporean mountaineer David Lim and Ong Shi Yi…
