Briton Plans to Round the World On an Electric Boat
British navigator Jimmy Cornell set sail from Seville in Spain on Thursday to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first voyage around the world—this time on an electric boat.Cornell plans to follow the route taken by explorers Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastian Elcano.The trip "has two dimensions, a historical dimension, because I want to travel the original and historic route," Cornell told reporters."But it has another very important dimension for me, which is to protect the environment.
Marine Electronics: New Display Aims to Simplify Ship Docking
Raytheon Anschütz is introducing a new “Docking Display” as an optional feature for the Conning NX navigational ship software.The Docking Display provides a navigator an overview of ship data at a glance and a chart window to facilitate docking. It is designed using Conning NX “widgets” that can be adapted and combined, as needed.“Operators will experience a never before possible situational awareness of the ship, its condition and influencing parameters in the docking maneuver,” said Jörg Schütt, Product Manager at Raytheon Anschütz.

Rolex Middle Sea Race: More than 100 Yachts
The 2015 edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, will start this Saturday, 17th October, in Grand Harbour, Malta. For the second year in succession, well over 100 yachts will be competing, flying the flags of 22 countries. The 36th edition of the race has a record number of 11 canting keel carbon fibre flyers racing, and weather permitting all of these high performance yachts are capable of breaking the course record, which has stood since George David's Rambler 90 record run of 2007 (47 hours 55 minutes and 3 seconds).

Global chart maker NV Charts is adding a new, dynamic dimension to its digital chart products and mobile NV App, all for free. This seminar, at the Sippican Women's Club in Marion, MA on May 4 – 5, 2013 is a hands-on course covering basic celestial theory, sight reduction of sun, moon, planets, stars, and specialty sights of certain bodies, like the noon sun sight and latitude by Polaris. Rolex Sydney Hobart Race 2012 Progress
Race leader 'Wild Oats XI' is set to launch into Bass Strait in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. There have been no retirements from the 76 boat racing fleet since it left Sydney on Boxing Day. Wild Oats XI's navigator, Adrienne Cahalan, reported that the crew had had a busy night, constantly changing sails as yesterday's east-south-easterly breeze moved around to the east and softened to 4-5 knots at around midnight. It gradually shifted around to the north-north east, and gradually built in the early hours of the morning.
