Los Cabos Billfish Tournament Final Results

Team Reel Gold’s Capt. Javier “Kuubby” Villavicencio struck gold with the only boated marlin in the Los Cabos Billfish Tournamet. The entire six-angler team including Murray Wright, Richard Matson, Mitch Kishimoto, David Patterson, Pat Jackson and Chris Turek flew from its current working residence in Namibia, Africa, during the opening week of the tournament, following Hurricane Odile, to attend the 16th annual event. The owner of Reel Gold Richard Matson has fished the tournament for 10 years and wasn’t going to miss the event.

New Rule for Temporary Import of Vessels

The Namibian Ministry of Finance (Customs & Excise) advises that a new rule governing the temporary importation of vessels into the country is now in force. - Copy of vessel's registration Certificate. - Copy of vessel's tonnage Certificate. - Sworn statement declaring the value plus equipment on board the vessel. Temporary Importation will be free of Import duty and Namibian VAT, but the agent must apply in advance, on behalf of the owner, for a rebate permit from Namibian Ministry of Trade and Industry. Fastest Sailboat on the Planet – 'Vestas Sailrocket 2'

The speed sailing boat smashes the current record in Walvis Bay, off the coast of Namibia. The new world record of 59.23 knots (109kph) set the best average time over 500m and broke the previous mark of 55.65 knots with a peak speed of 63 knots (119kph). Two days later the team improved this speed with a 59.38 knot run which peaked at exactly 120kph (64.78 knots). During the same run the team also smashed the nautical mile world record* with an average of over 55 knots. The ink was barely dry on the first record.

l’Hydroptère DCNS Sets Sailing Speed Record

On Friday, l’Hydroptère DCNS, the fastest sailboat on the planet, set the first certifiable one-mile sailing speed record on San Francisco Bay. A race committee under the authority of the Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay (YRA) and the San Francisco Bay Area Multihull Association (BAMA) declared a preliminary one-mile speed record of 37.5 knots (43.2 mph / 69.5 kph) based on visual timing that will be certified on analysis including precise Global Positioning System (GPS) plots. The race authority set a one nautical mile course angled between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, in winds of 16 knots gusting to 20 knots.
