New Hong Kong Superyacht Center

There's a new home for Superyacht care in Hong Kong, as China pins its hopes on a strong and growing maritime industry.Hong Kong Cruise and Yacht Industry Association (HKCYIA) has reached a partnership agreement with the China Merchants Industry Holdings Co. Captains, Crew Recoup Lost Wages by Arresting Megayacht

Most yacht crew are compensated every payday, via wire transfer or check. But for some yachties, the only way to get paid is the hard way: by filing a lawsuit in federal court and literally arresting the megayacht for back pay owed.While many captains and crew are reluctant to initiate expensive litigation to arrest the boat they’ve served on, pursuing their seaman’s lien is the best route for compensation. If the legitimate amount due is well over $10,000, crew should stand on their rights and act on their valid claim immediately.

New Agreement Training Cruise and Yachting Professionals

In view of the growing demand for talent in the fast-expanding global cruise and yacht industry, Hong Kong Cruise & Yacht Industry Association (HKCYIA) and the Vocational Training Council (VTC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for nurturing professionals for the industry.Dr. Liu, VTC Deputy Executive Director, said that VTC is keen to provide flexible study pathways and promote lifelong learning so as to equip people in pursuing further career development and advancement.

International Cruise and Yachting Festival Planned for November

Hong Kong’s first-ever cruise and yachting event, International Cruise and Yachting Festival (Hong Kong) 2018, is scheduled to be held from November 22 to 25 at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Kai Tak Runway Park and Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter. The four-day event, organized by the Hong Kong Cruise and Yacht Industry Association, will bring together global cruise and yacht brands and boats with Maritime Education and Employment, Marine and Leisure Tourism and Maritime Industry Developments as the major focuses.

HKCYIA Takes Part in Maritime Career Expo

Hong Kong Cruise & Yacht Industry Association (HKCYIA) took part in the “Hong Kong Maritime Week 2017”, a major annual event of the maritime and port industries in Hong Kong. Organized by the Maritime and Port Board in collaboration with the Shipowners Association and the Maritime Museum, HKCYIA was a major participant of the event with the setting up of an exhibition booth and the presentation of a series of talks at the “Maritime Career Expo”, a featured event of “Hong Kong Maritime Week 2017”.

KVH Launches New High-speed Maritime Network on Intelsat

Alewijnse Marine Systems, a systems integrator in the commercial, naval and superyacht sectors, announced the formation of Alewijnse Middle East LLC, the latest stage in its strategy to establish operations in high growth developing markets. Based in Qatar, Alewijnse Middle East (AME) is a partnership between Alewijnse Marine Galati, headquartered in Galati, Romania, and Sora Marine Services, a highly regarded Qatari company with extensive experience in providing maritime services.

Dubai Maritime City Signs Manufacturing Lease Agreement with Vitmar Yachts

Dubai Maritime City, a facility providing maritime services, signed a Yacht Manufacturing Workshop Lease Agreement with Vitmar Yachts, a custom luxury motor yachts manufacturer, for property within its’ Marine District. The Agreement was signed by Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Sheikh Tariq Al Khalifa, President of Vitmar. Vitmar Yachts is a new brand founded by Sheikh Tariq Al Khalifa, President and Antonio Amatuzzo, CEO with the cooperation of well-known Italian designers and craft makers, and the yachts will be assembled at their workshop in Dubai Maritime City.

Astrium Extends Agreement with Intelsat

Astrium Services, a global provider of satellite communications-enabled solutions, and Intelsat S.A., a provider of satellite services, signed a multi-year renewal agreement for C-band capacity to be used by Astrium Services' maritime customers in the Mediterranean, Atlantic Ocean, North Sea and Gulf of Mexico. The agreement will enable the new Business Communications unit of Astrium Services to continue meeting the high bandwidth requirements of C-band customized VSAT users, and supports broadband and expanded capabilities in the cruise, ferry and offshore sectors.
