Spain Moves Yacht Linked to Russian Oligarch After Payments Stop

Spanish authorities moved a luxury yacht linked to the sanctioned head of Russian defence group Rostec after the shipyard where it was berthed stopped receiving payments for its repairs, a transport ministry source said.The multi-million-dollar Valerie was transferred to a marina last month, the source and other officials said, highlighting the logistical challenges authorities have faced managing vessels being held across Europe because of sanctions imposed over Russia's military actions in Ukraine.Spain ordered the ship "frozen" - meaning the vessel can not be used or sold - in March, saying it was acting on European Union sanctions.

Indonesia: Superyacht Sinking Sparks Global Search

HM Coastguard in the UK was among the agencies joining an international search operation last night (Friday 22 November) after a superyacht sank off Indonesia.At 9.08pm Friday 22nd November, HM Coastguard in the UK received a call from the Australian maritime authority, (JRCC Australia), who had in turn received a HF DSC Distress from what initially appeared to be a UK registered vessel named Asia. Investigations started by searching all relevant databases for contact details for the vessel but the vessel was not found to be on the UK Register.

DMA Makes Pleasure Boat Rental Easier

Now, it becomes easier for private persons to hire out or share their pleasure boats. The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) has revised its regulations on pleasure boats so that they are now simpler if you want to hire out or share your pleasure boat with others. This is the case for both private persons and hire services. DMA Releases Flexible Framework for Yachtsmen's Tests

The Danish Maritime Authority has enabled yachting organizations to be approved for holding tests and issuing certificates, just as they can authorize external examiners for yachtsmen's tests. On the basis of a new executive order, it becomes easier to establish a dialogue between the clubs, evening schools, course providers and sailing schools that prepare people for tests and the approved course providers who carry out the tests as such. New Oceanco PYC Superyacht on Cayman Islands Registry

The Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands (MACI) says that Netherlands-based shipbuilder, Oceanco, recently launched 'Equanimity', the first superyacht of its kind, with regulatory oversight from the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry. The new superyacht measures 91.5 metres in length, and is the first to be designed and built to the Passenger Yacht Code (PYC). New Procedures for Guanabara Bay Olympic Sailing Event

Port Authorities at Rio de Janeiro are preparing to introduce new procedures for the upcoming Olympic Sailing event to be held in the south and east side of Guanabara Bay in July and August. Sailing teams from around the world will take part and the Brazilian Olympic Committee expecting over 450 craft will participate. Guanabara Bay will be closed for all type of navigation between 11am up to 5pm for both the first stage (28 July-2 August) and the second stage of the event (2-9 August). - There will be 15 alternative anchorage áreas at the Outer Anchorage. - Local navigation at north side of the bridge shall not be affected.
