NMMA, ABYC Partner for Certification Courses

The American Boat & Yacht Council and the National Marine Manufacturers Association South Carolina  have joined forces to present ABYC certification courses in Charleston, South Carolina. The first course will be the ABYC Marine Electrical Certification on September 9-12. The SC Department of Natural Resources will host the class at their Marine Resources & Research Institute classroom. Marina Port Vell (MPV), Barcelona, a superyacht destination and home port in the Mediterranean, announced that Nigel Upton has joined MPV as Senior Sales Manager effective March 10, 2014. Upton has a diversified superyacht background with direct experience in sales, management, customer service and time at sea. “Since January, we have experienced a remarkable upsurge in interest for the berths we are creating here at Marina Port Vell in Barcelona. We are excited that Nigel has agreed to join our sales team,” said Norma Trease, Director of Salamanca Group’s Marine Division.

OceanLED Sells Subsidiary, Restructures

For the past four years, the directors of OceanLED Limited, a U.K.-based manufacturing facility, have been developing two distinct business divisions, the marine underwater lighting business, OceanLED, and a separate commercial non-marine lighting division, trading as Lietcorp. The reality of building these two businesses has been significant management distraction and financial stress, the company said. The parent company, OceanLED Ltd., was placed into administration on Friday, March 14 in order to facilitate a management buy-out of both companies. OceanLED USA LLC is not affected.

Marina Port Vell Commits to Emissions Reduction

Marina Port Vell (MPV), Barcelona announced that it is has formally signed the “Acords Voluntaris” initiative developed by the Climàtic Canvi Catalan Office of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The initiative is designed to reduce greenhouse gases through measuring and taking inventory of emissions, implementing measures to reduce CO2 discharge and to continually monitor the effectiveness of the program. “Marina Port Vell is deeply committed to environmental protection,” said Norma Trease, Director of Salamanca Group’s Marine Division.
