Caterpillar Marine Launches Gen II Displays
Caterpillar Marine has unveiled its second-generation Cat Marine Displays (CMD) used for monitoring all engine platforms, supporting different vessel applications for professional maritime use.The three CMD variants—Cat CMD5 (5” display), CMD8 (8” display), and CMD13 (13.3” display)—designed to provide operators easy access to current operating data and alarms for engines. The new displays are type-approved and environmentally sealed to be waterproof for a wide range of temperature operations.
John Deere Rolls Out Trio of Marine Engines
John Deere Power Systems has expanded its lineup with three new marine engines available for order from early 2018. The new 4.5L PowerTech 4045SFM85 offers high power to weight ratio for repowering and new vessel construction, and is ideal for planing and semi-displacement hulls, the manufacturer said. It has two ratings for light-duty commercial vessels, high-speed governmental applications and high-speed pleasure craft, which includes an M4 rating with 205 kW (275 hp) at 2,600 rpm and M5 rating with 235 kW (315 hp) at 2,800 rpm. Finning to Showcase New Diesel Engines
Finning Marine is showcasing the new Cat C8.7 and C12.9 diesel engines, along with the Tier III Cat C32 ACERT propulsion engine and remote monitoring tool at the Southampton Boat Show 2014. With a displacement of 8.7 and 12.9 litres respectively, the Cat C8.7 and C12.9 offer yacht manufacturers a broad array of horsepower ratings ranging from 650 to 1,000 mhp, with the latter making the C12.9 an industry leader in power density. In order to meet customers’ requirements, each engine will be offered in several different configurations; all will conform to Tier 3 emissions regulations.
New Air Regulator from TDI Improves Air Flow Consumption
Tech Development (TDI) introduces its new TurboFlow Air Regulator which the company says dramatically improves air delivery to the start system. The TurboFlow Regulator combined with other TDI start system components provides perfectly matched air-flow to the turbine starter for improved reliability and significant system savings. “One of our marine customers was looking to get more than the three starts they were receiving from their air reservoir using a competitive pre-engaged turbine starter,” states Dave Rawlins, Senior Product Manager at TDI.
