ABB Power & Propulsion for 100-meter-plus Superyacht
ABB has won a contract to deliver power and propulsion systems for the superyacht to be constructed by the German yacht builder Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard (A&R). Scheduled for delivery in 2025, the 100-meter-plus vessel will be one of the largest ever constructed at A&R’s yard in Lemwerder, Northern Germany. The extensive scope of ABB systems onboard will include Azipod propulsion, Onboard DC Grid, a 500kWh Energy Storage System (ESS) and Power and Energy Management System (PEMS), whose combined and fully integrated capabilities will reduce emissions, noise, and vibration.
Hybrid Power for Southern Wind Superyacht
BAE Systems was selected by Southern Wind to provide the electric-hybrid power and propulsion system for a new high-performance superyacht. BAE Systems will supply and integrate its system on the SW96 Nyumba, the first marine vessel to benefit from the company’s newest propulsion technology. The HybriGen Power and Propulsion system is designed to reduce emissions and fuel consumption on the superyacht, which is designed for both long-range cruising and regatta racing. PBES Norway, Pangea Marine Trade Ink Agency Agreement
PBES and Pangea Marine Trade has announced the agreement to represent PBES energy storage for hybrid and fully electric commercial marine vessels in Southern Europe. “The hybrid power system of today is smart, proven technology, designed for ease of integration and uninterrupted performance,” said Brent Perry, Chief Executive Officer, PBES. “PBES energy storage is ideal to optimize the vessels Pangea’s customers are currently supplying to the marine industry”. A Traditional Ship with a Contemporary Heart
Old photos show mid-nineteenth century sailing ships abandoned in the San Francisco Bay area by crews who caught gold fever. Some of these abandoned hulls lie under the modern day city of San Francisco. Over in Sausalito, just to the north of the famous Golden Gate Bridge, what may well be the spirit of one of those buried vessels has taken shape under the direction of Captain Alan Olson, who has several decades of experience building and restoring and sailing classic wooden ships.
MTU Showcases E Drive at Monaco Yacht Show
The Rolls-Royce brand MTU is at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, showcasing its propulsion and system solutions for mega yachts.The range includes both standardised drive packages and customised system solutions, such as the E Drive system incorporating diesel engines and electric motors, transmission, electronics and energy storage system. The MTU portfolio combines the benefits of diesel-powered drives with those of purely electrically powered alternative drive systems. Corvus Energy Supply BMS to New Østensjø Rederi PSV
Corvus Energy supplies Norwegian ship owner Østensjø Rederi with turnkey lithium-ion battery management system (BMS) for newly designed vessel. The Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), designated ST-920, is being developed by Østensjø Rederi together with ship designer Skipsteknisk in Ålesund and building yard Astilleros Gondan in Spain in close collaboration with Siemens as the systems integrator and Corvus Energy as the energy storage system enabler. The new vessel will be used to support rig operations in the North Sea and construction is expected to complete in September 2013.
