Salvors Send Crane Barge to Refloat Yacht that Grounded in Puerto Rico

Salvors are sending a crane barge to lift a yacht that ran aground on a coral reef just off Puerto Rico's Flamenco Beach.The 72-foot sailing catamaran Obsession was reportedly traveling with four people on board from Puerto Rico to the British Virgin Islands when it struck a reef during a stop in Culebra on July 21. No injuries were reported.To remove the vessel, salvage and marine services contractor Resolve Marine has deployed its 400-ton shear-leg barge. Fuel Removed from Yacht that Struck a Reef in Puerto Rico

Salvors have lightered bulk diesel fuel from a luxury yacht that grounded on a reef just off Flamenco Beach in Culebra, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Coast Guard said.The 72-foot sailing catamaran Obsession was reportedly traveling with four people on board from Puerto Rico to the British Virgin Islands when it struck a reef during a stop in Culebra on July 21. NMMA, ABYC Partner for Certification Courses

The American Boat & Yacht Council and the National Marine Manufacturers Association South Carolina  have joined forces to present ABYC certification courses in Charleston, South Carolina. The first course will be the ABYC Marine Electrical Certification on September 9-12. The SC Department of Natural Resources will host the class at their Marine Resources & Research Institute classroom. Body of Missing Boater Found in Lake Michigan

The search for a missing man in Lake Michigan ended Tuesday afternoon as search crews from the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police located the body of the man on the shore of Lake Michigan in northern Muskegon County, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said in a press announcement this afternoon. The search commenced Monday night after a watchstander at Coast Guard Station Ludington, Michigan, received a phone call from the man’s friend reporting that the man had not reached his destination. The missing man left Whitehall Marina in Whitehall, Michigan, at 1 p.m.

Coast Guard Searching for Missing Man in Lake Michigan

U.S. Coast Guard crews are searching for a man who went missing from his boat in Lake Michigan, Monday night. The search commenced at 7 p.m. after a watchstander at Coast Guard Station Ludington, Michigan, received a phone call from the man’s friend reporting that the man had not reached his destination. The missing man left Whitehall Marina in Whitehall, Michigan, at 1 p.m. and told his friend that he was going to sail 39 miles north in Lake Michigan to Snug Harbor in Pentwater Lake. When the man had not reached Snug Harbor by 7 p.m., his friend called Coast Guard Station Ludington.

Boat Safety Course at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) in St. Michaels is offering five boater safety courses, with a certificate awarded after passing the test, beginning in April and continuing through August 2014. The courses will be held from 6 to 10 pm each day on CBMM’s campus and runs April 16-17, May 14-15, June 18-19, July 16-17, and August 13-14. The cost is $25 per two-evening session, with space limited and pre-registration required. Any Maryland boater born after July 1, 1972, is required to have a Certificate of Boating Safety Education in order to operate a vessel.
