International Cruise and Yachting Festival Planned for November

Hong Kong’s first-ever cruise and yachting event, International Cruise and Yachting Festival (Hong Kong) 2018, is scheduled to be held from November 22 to 25 at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Kai Tak Runway Park and Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter. The four-day event, organized by the Hong Kong Cruise and Yacht Industry Association, will bring together global cruise and yacht brands and boats with Maritime Education and Employment, Marine and Leisure Tourism and Maritime Industry Developments as the major focuses.

HKCYIA Gives Talk on Cruise Careers

Hong Kong Cruise & Yacht Industry Association (HKCYIA) recently provided a talk for some 100 youths on cruise careers and industry developments at the Plymouth University x HKU SPACE Day. The talk was part of a seminar at the Plymouth University x HKU SPACE Day jointly organized by the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) and Plymouth University, with the aim of promoting youth employment in the cruise industry and fostering its growth in the local sector.

First Call of AIDAbella in China’s Megacity

Early on the morning of April 2, 2017, AIDAbella was the first ship of the AIDA fleet to sail past Shanghai’s famous skyline, before the ship docked at the International Cruise Terminal at around 6.30 a.m. AIDAbella will remain from April 2 to 4, 2017, in this imposing metropolis in which AIDA is performing its turn-around operations for the first time. Around 4,000 guests will thus be able to experience Shanghai on exciting excursions, shopping, or while undertaking a vast array of leisure activities. Having come from Thailand, on April 4 at 8:00 p.m.

Damen Takes on Six Viking River Cruises Vessel Jobs

Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm) reports that it is currently working on a modification and maintenance contract for six inland cruise vessels owned by Viking River Cruises. With this winter service complete, all six vessels – known as longships – will be ready for the coming river cruise season. The Viking Idi was the first of the six to arrive at the yard in late December 2015. Sister ships Viking Idun, Viking Kvasir, Viking Kara, Viking Hlin and Viking Gullveig will follow consecutively.

Port Canaveral to Dedicate New Boat Ramp

The Canaveral Port Authority will officially dedicate the new East Boat Ramp near Jetty Park at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6. The free boat launch facility is larger than the Freddie Patrick Park ramps, which were demolished for construction of new Cruise Terminal 1 in the Cove. The terminal is scheduled to open in November. The new boat ramps are the result of staff collaboration with the boating community. As promised, the complex features 8 slips, 2 pavilions, fish-cleaning tables, restrooms, boat rinse station, paved parking and a grass overflow parking lot. The $4.6 million complex also has accessibility for the disabled.

Ostuferhafen Berth No. 1

Port of Kiel Expands Cruise Capacities

Extension of Berth No.1 at Kiel’s Ostuferhafen has started. The Port of Kiel – third largest turnaround port for cruises in northern Europe -  is expanding its handling capacities for cruise ships. Construction work for the extension of Berth No.1 at Ostuferhafen has begun, so that large cruise ships can dock there this summer already. Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director of the Port of Kiel  (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co.
