Sea Cloud Spirit has been delivered to Sea Cloud Cruises from the Vigo, Spain shipyard, and its maiden voyage is set for September 14, 2021, for a 10-night roundtrip Rome to Rome. The plan is to have the ship spend the fall in the Western Mediterranean and the upcoming winter season in the Canary Islands. Fire Scare Aboard British Cruise Ship

The Boudicca, a Fred Olsen cruise liner, with more than 1,000 people on-board has been left without power off the coast of Morocco after an engine fire. Passengers of the U.K. based luxury cruise liner were terrified when a fire plunged it into darkness and they prepared to abandon ship. The Boudicca was sailing off the coast of Casablanca, Morocco at 4am on Sunday when the engine room caught alight. As the ship lost power and started to list the passengers were ordered to put on life jackets and assemble at emergency locations. However, it is now on the move again with three auxiliary engines and two main engines running.

Young Endeavour Sets Sail on World Voyage

The Royal Australian Navy operated Sail Training Ship Young Endeavour set sail from Sydney today for a 12-month voyage, circumnavigating the globe. Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Darren Chester, attended the departure from Fleet Base East, and spoke with members of the Royal Australian Navy crew and the 24 young Australians who will sail the ship on the first leg, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Spirit of Malabo Nears Completion of Tests

The 24-foot Brazilian made ocean rowboat christened the Spirit of Malabo nears completion of tests before its maiden transatlantic journey from Gran Canaria, Canary Islands to New York with a resupply in the British Virgin Islands. The vessel is currently docked at Pasito Blanco La Punta Yacht Club. “The VHF, AIS, 24 hour tracking, radar, epirb, navigation lights, rowing seats and solar panels are working. Transatlantic Row to Encourage HIV Testing

Victor Mooney of Flushing, New York, reunited with his 24' rowboat christended the Spirit of Malabo over the weekend. Mooney and his vessel are currently at Pasito Blanco Yacht Club in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands is an archipelago of islands located off the coast of Morocco in West Africa. After some technical installations and a favorable offshore forecast, Mooney will row 5,000 miles to Brooklyn, New York. The rower hopes his journey will encourage voluntary HIV testing.

Feeling it at Finisterre: Class 40 Transatlantic Race Yachts Off NW Spain

Race organisers report that the Transat Jacques Vabre’s Class 40 had a tough time off the NW corner of Spain last night and this morning in strong, gusty winds and big seas which resulted in the British Class 40 Concise 8 having to retire with rudder damage. The two leaders in the class, which had 26 starters, are still just less than 100 miles ahead. PRB, sailed by 2004-5 Vendée Globe winner Vincent Riou along with Jean Le Cam, are challenging for the lead again in the IMOCA Open 60 fleet west of the Canary Islands.

AIDS Fighting Rowboat Readies for Next Mission

The Spirit of Malabo, a 24’ foot Brazilian built ocean rowboat, was hoisted from the Jamaica Bay at Gateway Marina early and rolled on a cradle with Service Caster wheels. The vessel will be used to promote voluntary HIV testing during a transatlantic row from the Canary Islands to New York with a resupply in the British Virgin Islands later this year.
