Strong Demand Helps Ski-Doo Maker BRP Shrink Its Loses

BRP Inc's net loss halved in the second quarter as the company sold more of its flagship Ski-Doo snowmobiles and Sea-Doo watercrafts. The Quebec-based company said strong demand for products such as the Sea-Doo Spark watercraft, Can-Am Spyder motorcycles and side-by-side off-roaders drove up seasonal product sales by 85 percent to C$259.8 million ($235 million) in the quarter ended July 31. Watercraft Thefts Sink by 6% in 2013

With summer and boating season just around the corner, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has released its latest report on watercraft theft and recoveries in the United States. The report examines watercraft  reported stolen between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2013. The report draws from data contained in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Overall, there were 5,537 watercraft thefts reported during 2013, and that is a 6 percent decrease from the 5,870 thefts reported in 2012.

U.S. Recreational Boating Industry Gathers in Washington, D.C.

Employees from across all sectors of the U.S. recreational boating industry are gathering on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC today and tomorrow for the annual American Boating Congress (ABC) to advocate on behalf of the industry’s 350,000 workers and 82 million boaters. Chaparral Enters Jet Boat Market

Marine Products Corporation announced  that its Chaparral Boats subsidiary has entered into a supply agreement with Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) to supply engines for a planned new line of jet boats, to be introduced within the next 12 months. Chaparral's new product line will be powered by BRP's Rotax 4-TEC in-board jet propulsion system, a proven power source and a strong complement to Chaparral's new model line. "We believe that this strategic relationship promises to deliver consumers a best-in-class boating experience that is supported by our outstanding dealer network," stated James A.
