Charities Partner for Inspirational Sailing Project

The official charity of the America's Cup World Series Portsmouth, The 1851 Trust is to partner with The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation to deliver inspiring sailing taster sessions to school children in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas throughout the summer holidays. The Portsmouth Sailing Project is funded by Travis Perkins plc and will be hosted by Portsmouth Sailing Club from Monday, July 27 until Sunday, August 30, 2015. The project has a target of providing sailing taster sessions for up to 1,000 young people aged 9-14 years during the five weeks of operation.

Sir Ben Ainslie Praises British Superyacht Apprentices

Gold medal winning Olympian, Sir Ben Ainslie, celebrated the achievements of 49 apprentices from the superyacht sector at the recent British Marine Federation’s (BMF) Apprenticeship Graduation (Tuesday 16 September). Those graduating have all successfully finished their apprenticeships with members of Superyacht UK, a group association of the BMF. Taking place at the PSP Southampton Boat Show, 55 graduating apprentices in total from all areas of the marine industry were presented with their awards by the America’s Cup sailor.

Denmark Bids for 2018 World Sailing Championships

One of four bidding for the Championships, Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city, outlined its bid at the ISAF headquarters in Southampton, England. The Danish presenters explain that the new Aarhus International Sailing Centre, to be completed by mid-2016 as part of a huge harbour development, will add the most modern sailing facilities in the world and ensure the sailors have a home worthy of their talents. With the theatre-style racing in the Bay and its technological expertise Aarhus can deliver the most spectator-friendly World Championships ever.

America's Cup World Series Begins in San Francisco

The America’s Cup World Series, San Francisco, is part of what is being billed as the busiest week of events in the city’s history. “We have a challenging program this week,” said regatta director Iain Murray. “We’re working with Fleet Week, so most of our racing will be later in the day. On Super Sunday we’ll be participating in the air show with Fleet Week. The air show will start and then stop, we’ll sail our Super Sunday fleet race (scheduled to start at 1:55 pm PDT), and then the air show will resume.
