Antwerp Port pitches in on "World Toilet Day"

Today, 19 November, is World Toilet Day when attention worldwide focuses on the 2.6 billion people who do not have access to sanitary facilities, and on the 768 million who do not have access to drinkable water. Antwerp Port Authority is eager to contribute towards solving this global problem, and so in collaboration with various Flemish partners it is committed to a project in the African country of Benin. As part of the Millennium Development Goals to provide greater access to drinkable water and sanitation by 2015, Flanders is participating in a number of projects, including one in the region of South Benin.

Piracy Offshore Africa: Securing a Continent

The late Nelson Mandela once said: “I dream of an Africa which is in peace with itself.” At the EU-Africa summit in Brussels last month, European leaders urged their African counterparts to facilitate that dream by shouldering more of the security burden in their countries, both onshore and offshore. The summit coincided with reports of renewed piracy activity in the Gulf of Aden; ongoing attacks on shipping in the Gulf of Guinea, and explosions and mass arrests in Kenya, all serving to underline the scale of that challenge.

WSS Opens Marine Safety & Training Academy in Atwerp

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) opened a new FRS (fire, rescue & service) Center and Safety Training Academy in Antwerp, Belgium. “The opening of new safety service training facilities around the world will play a vital role in the growth of our total safety offer,” said. IMCI Celebrates 20th Anniversary

On the June 24, 1993, the International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) has been registered as a nonprofit organization in Belgium. Now, 20 years later, IMCI is a market leader of certification under the Recreational Craft Directive. Together with all the IMCI worldwide staff –all Inspectors, office staff and Board of Directors–IMCI will celebrate this event following the annual Inspectors and Board of Directors meeting in autumn on the island of Malta. imci.org

ABYC Name Board of Directors, Appoint New Member

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) appoint Ulrich Heinemann, to the new Board of Directors. Ulrich Heinemann is Managing Director of the International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) which is located in Brussels, Belgium; he has also been re-appointed as a member of the ABYC Technical Board. International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) with headquarters in Brussels is an independent, conformity assessment body notified by the EU to perform CE certifications referring the recreational Craft Directive 94/25/EC as emended by 2003/44/EC.

Intellian Adds Range to i-Series TVRO Antenna

Intellian launched the i6D Ku-band TVRO antenna with integrated dual feed horn, enabling vessels to change channel without manually switching between the Astra 1 and Astra 3 satellites, providing reception in Europe. The dual feed horn enables access from the two satellites as the i6D watches the Astra 1 and Astra 3 satellites simultaneously and has multiple receivers that can watch different channels, so the user can switch channels and immediately view the program selected without delay. The system is compatible with SD and HD TV.
