ePropulsion Americas has announced the launch of the Seaview 50 catamaran – a collaborative effort between Heysea Yachts Company Limited and ePropulsion Technology Limited.ePropulsion developed the 48V marine energy storage system for the catamaran, which consists of four batteries, a 48V energy distribution unit, two hybrid inverters, a set of approximately 1900W solar panels, an AC distribution panel and a diesel generator – providing clean energy for the vessel. The Golden Gate Yacht Club (GGYC) represented by BMW Oracle Racing and the Société Nautique de Genève (SNG), the Americas Cup defending champion, represented by Team Alinghi were entwined in a 2.5-year legal battle over multiple court cases, including hearings in the New York Supreme Court and the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court, prior to the 33rd edition of the race, due to take place in 2010.The parties disagreed about the location, format, and restrictions on boat design, all of which were changed by the courts prior to the race.

Rolls-Royce said Wednesday it would deliver its new generation mtu Series 2000 engines which comply with the strict emissions regulations IMO III and EPA Tier 3 Recreational for the first time for a yacht to be built in the US. Rolls-Royce will provide two 16V 2000 M97L engines with an integrated SCR system and a power output of 1939 KW (2600 bhp) each.The engines will be installed in a Westport 125 yacht. Rolls-Royce is also delivering its automation solution mtu NautIQ Blue Vision NG for monitoring and control of the yacht’s propulsion system.

Scania Expands Partnership with Maritimo

Engine manufacturer Scania is expanding its its longstanding partnership with luxury yacht builder Maritimo to include boats built for the United States and Canada. Effective immediately, Scania’s 16-liter V8 and 13-liter in-line six-cylinder engines with industry-leading power-to-weight ratio will be standard fit on the Maritimo X50R and X60R – Performance Editions of the company’s range of X-Series sport motor yachts.Maritimo’s X50R will house twin 800 HP DI13 Scania engines, while the X60R will feature twin 1,150 HP DI16’s.
