ABYC Announces New Board, Officers
The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) hosted its 63rd annual meeting and announced the election of three new members to the board of directors as well as the election of four officers. The annual meeting included an awards presentation to recognize ABYC members who have provided exceptional service to the marine industry. Joining the board of directors is Christina Paul from K&L Gates LLC, David Johnson from Power Products LLC and Elio Betty from BoatU.S. Dave Marlow, who has served as board chairman for the past four years, introduced the new board members during ABYC’s annual meeting.
K&L Gates' Paul Appointed to ABYC BoD
Christina Paul, a partner in the Miami office of the global firm K&L Gates LLP, was recently appointed to the American Boating & Yacht Council (ABYC) Board of Directors. She will serve a three-year term. The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is a non-profit, member organization that develops voluntary safety standards for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of recreational boats. ABYC is the premier global standards organization in the marine industry and a leader in technical education and technician certification.
Scholten Joins ABYC as Technical Vice President
The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) announced that Craig Scholten has joined the association as technical vice president. Brining 33 years of boating industry experience to the role, Scholten will oversee the ABYC technical department and be responsible for ABYC’s relationship with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and compliance with Europe’s Recreational Craft Directive (RCD). Scholten will also work with the membership department to help add value to new and existing members from a technical resource perspective.
ABYC Names Seipp Marketing/PR Manager
Shannon Seipp has been named marketing/PR manager at he American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC), as announced by John Adey, ABYC president. Seipp brings to her new position a background in brand management, for both non- and for-profit organizations. She has worked for Ripken Baseball, US Lacrosse and, most recently, Renegade Communications. She has a master's degree in recreation leadership from James Madison University. Seipp will oversee all aspects of ABYC's communication and media presence.
NMMA, ABYC Partner for Certification Courses
The American Boat & Yacht Council and the National Marine Manufacturers Association South Carolina have joined forces to present ABYC certification courses in Charleston, South Carolina. The first course will be the ABYC Marine Electrical Certification on September 9-12. The SC Department of Natural Resources will host the class at their Marine Resources & Research Institute classroom. This is a great opportunity for our South Carolina members to send their staff to ABYC certification courses,” explained Suzi DuRant, NMMA SC’s Executive Director.
ABYC Name Board of Directors, Appoint New Member
The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) appoint Ulrich Heinemann, to the new Board of Directors. Ulrich Heinemann is Managing Director of the International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) which is located in Brussels, Belgium; he has also been re-appointed as a member of the ABYC Technical Board. International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) with headquarters in Brussels is an independent, conformity assessment body notified by the EU to perform CE certifications referring the recreational Craft Directive 94/25/EC as emended by 2003/44/EC.
American Boatbuilders Flag Upcoming Conference
The American Boat Builders & Repairers Association (ABBRA) announce the line-up of topics & speakers at its January 2013 Fort Lauderdale conference. ABBRA inforn that the event will focus strictly on issues important to boatyards, boat builders and marine service/repair businesses. Participants will hear updates on opportunities and challenges facing the boatyard/boatbuilding marine industry sector. Speakers will offer national and global perspectives on changes in the marine business environment and what may be expected in the future. .B.
