VARD to Build World's Largest Superyacht
Norwegian shipbuilding and design group VARD announced it has secured a contract to build the world's largest superyacht.At 33,500 GRT, with a length of 222 meters and a beam of 27 meters, the $600 million superyacht Somnio was unveiled Monday as the first ever residential "yacht liner", featuring 39 luxurious apartments for a select, secret group of ultra-wealthy travelers.Captain Erik Bredhe, co-founder of Somnio, is overseeing the project.

Kleven, Lürssen Partner to Build Explorer Vessel
Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven said it has signed a contract with German based luxury yacht designer and builder Lürssen to collaborate for the delivery of a 100-meter-long exploration vessel newbuild for a non-disclosed customer. Kleven said the vessel will be built, partly outfitted and technically finalized at Kleven Verft in Norway, before final outfitting at Lürssen’s Blohm+Voss facility in Hamburg, Germany.

New Recreation Submersible Dives Deep
Triton Submarines LLC, a builder of personal submarines designed for yacht deployment, has launched a new submersible designed to dive to ocean depths of 6,600 feet, transporting passengers deeper than other models in its range. Announcing the new submersible was Triton Submarines CEO L. Bruce Jones, who unveiled plans for the new Triton 6600/2 at a press conference held at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on November 6.

One of the largest sailing ships in the world, the 636-foot-long Club Med 2 is a huge five-masted cruise ship owned and operated by Club Med. Florida Marine Tanks Awarded 2 US Patents
After recently celebrating its 40th anniversary, Florida Marine Tanks announced it has achieved another milestone with the award of two U.S. patents: the first for its fuel tank with internal evaporative emission system, U.S. patent 8,807,162, and another for its fuel tank with internal fuel shutoff system, U.S. patent 8,807,160. DMC Builds the Smallest Ever Nozzle
Damen Marine Components (DMC), part of Damen Shipyards Group, announced it has smashed its propeller nozzle world record by 33 percent downwards. This downsizing to an inside diameter of 665 millimeters only - from the previous 1,000 mm ‘entry level model’ - marks a new milestone for DMC’s Optima Nozzle series. Already one-third smaller than the previous one meter (1,000mm) Benjamins, the new 65 centimeter nozzles are, however, dwarfed altogether by the biggest models in the Optima series.

Merco Docks Help Town Celebrate Independence Day
Local dock builder donates temporary docks to support Independence Day festivities. The City of Wellsburg’s courtesy docks are missing for the 2014 boating season after being deemed unsafe for public use and completely removed from the 12th street launch ramp area this past winter. The docks are typically used by the area’s boaters for 4th of July festivities in Wellsburg, where boating is a large part of the local community.

Solar-powered Canoe Travels the Entire Mississippi
After a long journey that started in 2012, the CalypSol crew reached Baton Rouge, Louisiana at 3:25 pm on June 11, completing 1,100 miles to become the first solar powered canoe voyage down the Mississippi. This was the third and longest segment of the trip that took Raymond Christe and Jean-Claude Barras from Memphis, Tennessee to Baton Rouge. A Torqeedo Travel 503 electric outboard helped power their long-distance expedition.
